Sherwood Apartments, Carnbee

Sherwood is set in the
lovely and typical Tobago village of Carnbee. Spotlessly clean with
huge rooms and big, big beds with fresh mosquito nets, this is a fab
place to stay. It's all painted in lemon and blue and looks lovely
amongst the leafy green gardens it's set in.
There's a very nice pool,
and rooms all have fans or air
conditioning. There are views over the Caribbean Sea and upstairs
rooms have a strong breeze.
Supermarkets and restaurants are nearby. A BBQ is
available outside to cook your catch on, and the staff do BBQs
anyway.
We've had fabulous feedback from people staying here. The lovely -
and efficient - Nigel picks you up from the airport and the staff are welcoming and
friendly. Close to lovely beaches and golf. They lay on a daily
minibus service from Sherwood Apts to Pigeon Point and Store Bay
beaches for just US$3
From US$ 55 ( about £28 ) per
apartment per night inclusive of taxes.

The Nest, Mot Mot
Ridge

A
fabulous Italian inspired couple of apartments with super views of
Buccoo Reef and benefiting from an airy open--plan design and cool
breezy verandahs.
The
Nest is so called because of the beautiful tropical birds that nest
near the balcony of this wonderful house. You can relax with a cold
beer or glass of wine and just enjoy the view of the turquoise
Buccoo Reef in front of you while tiny hummingbirds, bananaquits and
bright blue tanagers fly above you. One of the island's best
beaches is just a few minutes walk away, as are some excellent
restaurants.
The two apartments are private from the owner's main house, all of which was
designed by Italian Antonella Colombo Bolla - and you can
tell. The house stands high on Mot Mot Ridge and is only a short
walk from a couple of lovely quiet beaches.
There are two private apartments. They're enormous, brand new
and beautifully laid out - all white and cool open plan with
lots of storage space.
The style and design is very Italian, with with lovely kitchens and
bathrooms. There's lots of floor space, and each
apartment has its own large verandah with relaxing furniture, overlooking
the sea. Airport pick up is free.
Antonella
is a wonderful host should you need her help. She can organise a
driver for you, excursions and point you in the direction of where
to get fresh fish for BBQs.
The 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment sleeps 4 or 5 people and is US$
85 ( about £41 ) per night in the low season.
The 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment sleeps 1 or
2 people and is US$ 55 ( about £26 ) per night in low season.
Antonella and her fisherman husband also do fishing and snorkelling
trips.
More details of rates, trips and special offers are on The Nest's
very good website. Reservations and queries can be made through the
website. Antonella is online almost every day.

Castara
Retreats Apartments

Castara
is a stunning village in a quiet spot on the island. Turn one way
and you see a beautiful beach with ink blue water, turn the other
and you're looking at Tobago rainforest.
An English couple who know and love the island have built an
imaginative wooden lodge here with views to die for. The emphasis is
on simplicity but quality, with all you need for a relaxing holiday
away from it all. Over three years, they have built up a strong
reputation, and many visitors come on recommendation or as
returnees.
The accommodation is very clever. It comprises 3 Haiku style
apartments that can be rented separately (they are soundproofed) or
opened up to be one large living space for an extended family or
special get together.
There
are hammocks, white bed linen, mosquito nets, proper glasses and
crockery, hairdryers and well equipped kitchens
and showers. You can sip cold beers
on your own veranda and then doze off in bed with the canopy open
looking out to the Caribbean Sea. Mango trees fringe the property
overall, and the gardens have been extensively developed over the
three years, to include a huge range of flowering shrubs and fruit
trees. Visitors are
invited to explore along the grass paths, enjoy the sights from the wooden
viewing deck and pagoda, with panoramic views all along the coast.
Porridge
and Jeanell are at the heart of the excellent back up team who
although not resident on site, do check in with clients most days.
Prices are from are from £85 (about US$168)
per night for the Hummingbird 2 apartment (sleeps 2) to £155 (about
US$305) for the Rainforest penthouse apartment which sleeps 4.
Local meals and transport are easily arranged via
the website too.
Good website - easy to use and easy to book, with fab photos. Contact
the owners Sue Campbell and Steve Felgate.
